Lemley Beats Holmwood on Last Lap
5/30/08
Deming, WA – Les Schwab night at Deming Speedway provided a Lifestyles RV 1200 main event for the ages. Derek Holmwood and Brock Lemley engaged in a heavyweight prize fight-esque main event rumble. With Holmwood leading on lap 17, Lemley made his way to second place from a deep starting spot and began to work. Holmwood had been rim riding, so Lemley took to the bottom of the 1/6 mile clay oval and began to make headway. By lap 19, Holmwood and Lemley were virtually even, with Lemley trailing Holmwood by mere thousandths of a second. Holmwood relinquished the lead for the first time on lap 22, but immediately took it back over on lap 23. The back and forth war waged into turn 1 of the final lap, when Holmwood had to check up with slower traffic ahead of him. Lemley took his opportunity, powering his car one more time on the bottom of the track and beating Holmwood to the line en route to his second feature win of the year. Following Holmwood to second was Clennon Holloway for third.
Dustin O’Brien took the Deming Speedway clay in the Frontier Chevrolet / Speedmart 600 class with one thing in mind tonight – scoring his first career win. Lady Fortune saw fit to smile on Dustin tonight, giving him the coveted outside row 1 starting spot. O’Brien took advantage, rocketing out to the lead in the first corner and without hiccupping once, taking home his first career win. Second went to Trey Starks, third to Logan Forler.
In the PMP 600 Restricted class, another first time winner was crowned; Third generation driver Doug James ran away with an easy win in a loaded main. Only challenged on restarts, James was smooth in open air, never making the mistake the rest of the field would have needed to close the gap between them and him. Second went to Derek Moss, third to Jacob Buckenmeyer.
Jake Benson evened the score in the Advanced Sprintcar & Toys for Trucks 250’s. With a car that was a little too loose for his liking, Benson took a ride off the inside guard rail around lap 13 and thought his evening may be over. Instead, the wall gave his car just the right amount of adjustment he needed, as his loose problem went away and allowed him to close up on race leader Brandon Turner. With a well functioning race car, Benson moved underneath Turner on the 17th to take the lead and the eventual win, his second of the year. The win ties Benson and Turner for most wins in the class this year with two. Turner brought home second with brother Eric Turner taking third.
Not to be outdone, the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint main was absolutely thrilling in the final frames. Skyler Pawlowicz looked poised to take home another win, sneaking underneath Sean Geary for the lead on lap 11. Geary didn’t give up, mashing the throttle just a little harder and keeping Pawlowicz in his sights. With lapped traffic becoming a factor on lap 14, Geary made his move – squirting his car low off corner four and pinning Pawlowicz to the high side, Geary got the coveted inner line going into turn one on the final lap, outgunning Pawlowicz and Austin Sheridan for his first career win.

Wide Margin of Victory the Tale at Deming Speedway

Deming, WA- Little Caesar’s Pizza night at Deming Speedway was dominated by dominating performances. In the Frontier Chevrolet / Speedmart 600’s, Logan Forler visited victory lane again after putting a walloping on the field. Forler went wire to wire from his outside row one starting spot, enjoying a half lap advantage through the majority of the race. Second place went to Kyle Johnson, third to Trey Starks.
Vindication, thy name is Anderlini. Cody Anderlini brought home a much needed victory for his team in the Lifestyles RV 1200 class. One week after failing post race inspection, Anderlini showed the naysayers he could get it done by taking over the lead on lap eight and pulling away from Brock Lemley for the win. Anderlini acquired the lap eight lead when race leaders Jason Bloodgood and Derek Holmwood tangled with a lapped car, bringing out a yellow. Second place on the night went to Lemley, third to Clennon Holloway.
Chad Sinner visited victory lane for the third time this season in the PMP Chassis 600 Restricteds. Sinner won by almost a three-quarter of a lap advantage over second place finisher Angie Magnussen. They only incomplete part of Sinner’s night was not leading the race wire to wire, as Kalaan Blanton led the first four laps before succumbing to Sinner’s pressure. Third place went to Rece Goetz.
Brandon Turner is having a renaissance season in the Advanced Sprint Car and Toys for Trucks 250’s. Turner led wire to wire to score his second win this season. Turner has been on a real roll since last years season finale, as the 250 points chase is shaping up to be another classic. Second went to Jake Benson, third to Eric Turner.
Congratulations go out to first time main winner Kale Woodske in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint class. Woodske was a rocket all night, pulling away from second place Skyler Pawlowicz to take home the first of many main event trophies. Third place went to Sean Geary.

Deming, WA- It was a good night for former Clay Cup Winners at Deming Speedway Friday night. Multiple Time Clay Cup Champion and huge fan favorite Brock Lemley wired the field in the 25 lap Lifestyles RV 1200 main. It was an odd feature to say the least; Lemley was never really challenged due to the multiple cautions and stoppages that occurred. Seven out of sixteen cars finished the feature which was checkered flagged at the twenty-three lap mark due to time constraints.
Multiple time Clay Cup Champion Ben Hogarth scored win number one in the Frontier Chevrolet / Speedmart 600’s. Hogarth was a wire to wire victor as well, finishing the race with a half lap advantage over second place finishing JR Thomas and third place Trey Starks.
Brandon Turner received redemption in the Advanced Sprint Car and Toys for Trucks 250’s. After leading most of the race last week only to incur technical difficulties, Turner took the lead from brother Eric Turner on lap two and won this weeks feature. Jake Benson made it interesting late race by challenging Turner a few times unsuccessfully.
Chad Sinner has become quite the force to be reckoned with in the PMP Chassis 600 Restricted division. Sinner led another main wire to wire for another win in the ever growing class. In a recurring theme, Jacob Buckenmeyer finished second and made a valiant late race charge, but was unsuccessful. Look for these two to continue this developing rivalry deep into the summer.
Congratulations go out to first time winner Skyler Pawlowicz in the Kasey Kahne Jr Sprints. Pawlowicz used a middle-high line to navigate far away from Austin Sheridan who was in search of his fourth main event victory in a row.
